Bead plate anarchy? Contribution to the collaborative bead art project
In 2017, there was a 16-bit war on the net. The social media site, Reddit.com, had created a webpage called "Place", which was a blank 1000x1000 pixel canvas. The concept was that each visitor could color one pixel every 5-20. minutes. The project lasted three days, and managed to get over 1 million unique users. The timelapse of those 72 hours is amazing. But the interesting thing about the project was not just to watch how niches in all branches flocked together to make small pieces of art. It was a regular war in there. Alliances and arch-enemies became inevitable for even the smallest group of bit-setter. This took place on private chat forums with rank-classified information, real and fake agendas, mob handling, plan A, plan B, anarchist internet trolls, 4chan, propaganda, fake news, spies and ambassador exchanges. It got Reddit's niches to interact internally and externally with each other in completely new ways.
There probably won’t be a 16-bit war on Saturday. But the artist group BYRUMSPOLLIFYLLA is setting up a project that reminds me a bit of Place. As a matter of fact, they invite us all to come and fill triangular bead plates, which are pieced together and hung up somewhere in town. How the beads are placed in the triangles is all up to us. Like in Place.Link to the event
